16. [livejournal.com profile] kikimay requested: TOP 5 RAGE/LOL/WTF STORYLINES.

Before we continue I want to say that when I posted this meme I wasn't ASKING for people to prompt nothing but salt, but that is how life has turned out, so.

WARNING: SPOILERS ABOUND BELOW for S4 of Angel/BSG/Doctor Who (what is it with TV shows and the season four), the last Potter movie, and the most recent episode of Reign.

In no particular order because I refuse to measure the degree of my confusion:

TOP FIVE "LOL/WTF IS THIS I DON'T EVEN" MOMENTS IN FICTION!!!!!!!

"WHY" #1: the last 5 minutes of Angel 4.15 Orpheus

angel415_1193angel415_1195

On my list of Characters Horrendously Fucked Over By the Writers, Cordelia Chase would make top five for sure. Mystical pregnancies are, as you can probably guess, MY FAVE PLOT DEVICE EVER, and the degree of damage it did to Cordy's character made Darla's Redemptive Motherly Sacrifice arc look forward-thinking and enlightened. At least Darla was a conscious and freely acting agent throughout! Cordy's return in season five's You're Welcome was a blessing, but redeem her torpedoed narrative it did not.

In summary:

motivational03

((((... Despite that I still maintain the Jasmine arc is one of the most compelling things to come out of that show. See, this is my problem with Angel: one totally enraging narrative decision is followed by INEXPLICABLE GENIUS (see also: season five).))))

"WHY" #2: Battlestar Galactica 4.22 Daybreak (parts 2 & 3) -- the whole thing, the entirety, ALL OF IT

I defer to P's WHAT THE FUCK?: post on the finale. The extensive WHAT THE FUCK? list at the end is particularly on point. WHAT THE FUCK all around!!!!!!

BUT ESPECIALLY:

6KaraPigeon

NO FURTHER COMMENT.

"WHY" #3: the last 10 minutes of Doctor Who 4.13 Journey's End

lol, I've already shaded this IN GREAT DEPTH so I won't belabour the point. Just consider this your friendly reminder that the Doctor is the kind of commitment-evading ho who sets up his One Special Girl with clones of himself. #never 4get

(WILL I STILL BE LAUGHING ABOUT THIS TEN MILLION YEARS FROM NOW? PROBABLY.)

Honourable mention to the bewildering and incomprehensible trainwreck that was the entirety of series six. I'd elaborate but Eleonore and Myriam are none the wiser so let that be a pressed rant for a stronger soul than I.

"WHY" #4: Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, part II -- WHATEVER THIS WAS

(Warning that the following edited clip is EXTREMELY WRONG!)

There are no words.

As far as I'm concerned Part I was a tough act to follow but by God, this scene was doing the most!

"WHY" #5: the last 5 minutes of Reign 2.10 Mercy

I was spoiled that Henry would be coming back from the dead and yet, I WAS STILL SHOCKED TO THE BONE! This is some Katherine Heigl/dead husband bullshit, man! (And I didn't even go there!) Of course, Reign's crazy always winds up making sense sooner or later (e.g. THE GHOST OF HENRY POSSESSING A MAID turning out to be Narcisse trolling Francis LIKE NO ONE HAS EVER TROLLED BEFORE, God bless Cissy), so I have high hopes for this storyline. And we know how I feel about Catherine/Henry. #and you cry and your tears are the blood of the innocents

IN CONCLUSION:

SENSE

Any amazing lol moments I missed? BY ALL MEANS SHARE WITH THE CLASS.

Hahaha, I was just delighting in your list of WTF moments (and wondering all over again what, exactly, the BSG finale was ... like, why is that what they thought of out of ALL THE THINGS? The first time around, I was just so glad that Gaius and Caprica got back together that I kinda ignored everything else, but then rewatching, it was like, ????), and then boom:

SEX GHOST HENRY!

Which is the way every list should end.

:D

Clearly Caprica/Gaius is the only relevant factor, end.

Yeah, I mean, hard to argue with 1-3. OMG that dress that possessed pregnant Cordelia is wearing?!??! I think it is possible to read the AtS s4 Cordy aspects generously, but, nah, why bother? I actually still haven't seen Deathly Hallows Parts 1 or 2 (I've read the book, but I just never got around to the movies because, uh, I'm a weird aimless person).

CORDELIA'S POSSESSED PREGNANCY WARDROBE = THE WORST. AND I SWEAR BY ALL-BLACK HALLOWEEN ATTIRE, USUALLY.

I'd love to see how you enjoy the Potter movies tbh. Most peeps h8 them but I can tell you straight up that the above Draco/Voldemort segment makes it all worth it.

Date: 2014-12-17 01:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] local-max.livejournal.com
I watched them in a weird order -- I watched up to GoF when they came out, but I only read the books around when Deathly Hallows-the-book came out (...I like it when I know I won't have to wait for very long!), so I have a hard time evaluating those early movies against the books. I did find the first two movies kind of meh as standalone works, and liked 3-4 better (as standalone movies). OotP I thought was VERY messy and HBP sort of uninspired as movies, with a lot of the core emotional stuff in the Harry/Snape/Dumbledore stuff missing and the other characters still left adrift. So, IDK. I will probably watch them at some point.

omf. obviously the FOREVER shots of awkward staring are fake in that clip, but Voldy does go up and hug Draco creepily? that is a real thing that happened in the movie? in a movie that was made?

My bad, I thought you meant you hadn't done any of the movies at all. I'm one of those weirdos who enjoys most of them pretty well, though ITA about the hilarious mediocrity of the HBP movie. Then again maybe people who care about Dumbledore were moved.

IT IS A REAL THING THAT HAPPENED. You can see the real clip here and, honestly, it's not that far different IMO.

Date: 2014-12-17 02:33 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] local-max.livejournal.com
No prob. My joke after seeing HBP is that it's a movie about how Snape takes an unbreakable vow and then doesn't break it. Which, lol, is technically true in the books as well, but there's a concerted effort to build up Snape as unpleasant but aligned with Dumbledore which I don't think the movies really did, though I might be misremembering, so it's pretty much like, oh, yeah. Well. SURPRISE!

The movies are sometimes hilarious though. Like, am I correct in recalling that there was NO dialogue to establish that Moody in GoF was a fake, and so Moody showing up in OotP makes NO sense?

Date: 2014-12-17 01:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ever-neutral.livejournal.com
I'm not sure why anyone would want to watch those movies without having read the books because "oh yeah well SURPRISE" is like all of them in summary.

But lol, nah, iirc there was a whole bit in GoF where we saw the real Moody at the bottom of the suitcase. YOUR VERSION IS THE MORE AMUSING ONE, THO. Carry on with your poor opinion of blockbuster film franchises.

Date: 2014-12-17 03:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] local-max.livejournal.com
Haha okay, I sort of wish my version were true! Oh well, I CARRY ON.

From: [identity profile] local-max.livejournal.com
also, I forget, did you ever watch s6 (or later) in Dexter? Because, omg.

Date: 2014-12-18 12:38 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ever-neutral.livejournal.com
lol, I watched ALL THE WAY TO THE END. Lumberjack Dexter deserves the most honourable of mentions.

Date: 2014-12-18 10:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] local-max.livejournal.com
lol. Did you ever read my ~shade~ post about the Dexter s6 finale? That was the breaking point for me -- but a friend talked up season seven enough for me to try it. And there were good things in s7, but, nah, it didn't take. I stopped after the end of s7 (the LaGuerta thing), and only laughed at lumberjack Dexter. I almost tried to watch the finale but decided I didn't have it in me. BONUS: also contains my ACTUAL THEORY about what I briefly thought was going to happen in the Lost finale in the comments, if you look for it! (It's so awesome I wish it had happened, ngl.)

It's a lot harder with things you once loved you know? And I guess the difference between Dexter and BSG is that while Dexter was almost a monotonic decline in quality (not quite, but...almost), BSG started off a very good, solid show, and increasingly became a BATSHIT INSANE show veering between amazing and terrible moment-to-moment. I mean the finale even has "I know a lot about farming," and I also weirdly dug Anders' flashback talking about perfection in sports for whatever reason. I mean that is probably it. I think there might have been something else not crappy about the BSG finale. lol. Well anyway season 4.5 in general had a lot of ups and downs, even if the finale was mostly downs. Whereas late series Dexter I just sort of...didn't like.

Date: 2014-12-19 01:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ever-neutral.livejournal.com
lol, I did, I did, but I was behind at the time. (Why did I choose to watch knowing what horror lay before me? A compelling question.)

So I'm looking at your Lost alternate ending and

And Jack points out that this is completely insane, but then everyone sort of blandly smiles at him in the way they did in the finale, and then he agrees to sit there and let the bomb go off.

Crying.

I mean the finale even has "I know a lot about farming," and I also weirdly dug Anders' flashback talking about perfection in sports for whatever reason.

The above + the "you can see them too?" with Caprica and Gaius were the only relevant beats.

Listen babe, I haven't whined about this to you but I'm having WEIRD EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS and have not been able to force myself to watch AHS, Reign, OR THE 100 at all this season. Or Who. (well okay I watched 12's first episode and then the next one was Daleks and the idea of a Dalek episode made me feel so tired that I just gave up.)

And then Marta told me to just not catch up on Reign bc of Mary's plotline being so gross.

So I'm conflicted.

L M F A O, what is a Dalek, we may never know (tho that ep was alright).

I feel weird because I disagree about the way Reign is treating Mary. I'd say it's worth watching. But I also wouldn't call it EASY watching, especially if you're not in a good frame of mind for it, so.................... idk.

Totally agreed on Angel. Altering a character for a couple of episodes at most for a surprise twist is one thing, but they basically destroyed Cordelia's character for an entire season, so much so that it was a delightful surprise to actually be reminded of how the character used to be in You're Welcome. Yes season 4 Cordelia wasn't really her, but it was still the lasting memory that the audience were left with when you spend that long on a character not being themselves :( Plus it was kind of gross how you could feel Joss's issues with Charisma coming through at certain points with how "Cordelia" was being written, i.e making out with the Beast with "Give Mama some suger"

And agreed on Journey's End too. I always thought that it was super-weird how most of the episode had been treating the clone as a very obviously lesser version, not to mention that he was half created by Donna and had a lot of her characteristics etc, yet in the end it's all hand waved away with obviously Rose would be thrilled to be paired off with this ~version~ of the man that she loves??? If he'd been a full-blown identical clone then that would have been one thing, but he really wasn't even that

Yeah, I ain't even touching the behind-the-scenes mess. I don't want to think of Joss as being a piece of shit irl all along, but apparently all evidence points to it.

yet in the end it's all hand waved away with obviously Rose would be thrilled to be paired off with this ~version~ of the man that she loves???

No joke, Rose was ROBBED! All in all, just about the most perplexing happenstance of an "endgame" for a resurrected dead ship EVER. I'M EMBARRASSED FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED.

This list does not include HIMYM or the Dexter finale, therefore it should automatically be invalid. (Also, I really expected SOMETHING from Lost to end up on here.)

However, Cordelia's outfit ALONE is enough WTF to last us for centuries. Carry on.

YEAH, WHY DON'T YOU GO MAKE YOUR OWN LIST THEN.

(How would I even go about narrowing down "things that didn't make sense" in Lost.)

However, Cordelia's outfit ALONE is enough WTF to last us for centuries.

The REAL WTF is that supposedly the real Cordy actually owned those clothes. (Um. Unless Fauxdelia went shopping in between impregnating herself and murderating Lilah.)
