I can't improve upon bellonablack's comments above - I've read only a few spuffy stories, (buffy fanfic in general) and not very many convey Buffy's voice, mentally and verbally, in a way that I can imagine SMG on the show saying/thinking those things. You've GOT her here, and Spike, to the letter, using the familiar voices to express surprising ideas. I love this, and I love all the layers here. this didn't happen but it seems to fit canon perfectly as a "deleted scene" so to speak.
"fuck buddy" - that's how I thought of them when watching S6, as fuck buddies - knowing what I do about depression (going through myself) and abusive relationships I know that they are so WRONG for and to each other that season but part of my heart ached for Buffy to just be able to enjoy it, and let go of the shame.
I also adore how you get BOTH of their voices equally, which again doesn't happen often from what I've seen.
And the lingering smell of her hair on his skin definitely doesn’t unleash a torrent of embarrassing effusive poetry that he will in no way later surreptitiously jot down on a flower-print notebook he stole from Dawn. He’s got some scrap of dignity about him, if the records would care to know.
