I am supposed to be writing a report on a 600-page historical novel that I mostly skimmed! I am not doing that! I am writing this, because this post is 7000x more interesting.
The irony of "I lost control" is that she was in control every second. She didn't lose control of her actions; she lost control of her emotions. (LOL, sounds like someone else we know, am I right or am I right.) And because we all have to cling to ways of not dealing, she attempts to explain it as "losing herself", as though it wasn't all her the entire time. Stunning, tbh.
I am so intrigued to see how Elena's own view of self develops. is it too much to hope that we will get a S/E convo where he is like "this is not you!" and she is like, "yes, yes it is" and Stefan faints and then falls off a rooftop? IDK, sometimes my expectations can be too high.
Okay, real talk. Startin' to get real tired of fandom's deal about Elena's depression.
This is driving me so bonkers, so much so that I have had to not read some forums and like, do legitimate work. (The horror. THE HORROR). You know that if Elena was acting all carefree and unperturbed, the same people would be calling foul at her for not being compassionate or whater. Girl can't win (except at The Hot Vampire Game).
Bonnie/Shane. I'm into it. Let it happen for my perverse need to see such things, show.
Me too. I had a History of the Occult teacher in college. He was bald and just constantly name-dropped himself as the *third* biggest expert of Alchemy in the world. (My forever question: THERE ARE THREE?!) This version is already so much better.
This seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I <<<<<<<<33333333 Elena's "you told me to kill him, so I did." It's not about shifting blame; she knows full well that this is her fault.
I liked this moment too, and agree that she's not really blaming Damon here, or at least not in a way that will extend past that scene. I also kind of read it as Elena having a "the fuck is my life" moment. Previously, Human!Elena would have deliberated for days and days and days about whether or not this OBVIOUS THREAT should be killed. Now, Damon was like "kill him!" and SHE DID. With no soul-searching, kind of at all, until it was too late.
And the reason that Damon is on the whole faring better right now is because he already went through his emo period of fucking everything up and eating crow.
You're totally right. Damon has matured a bit--in like tiny tiny tiny babysteps, and sometimes the baby is still looking the wrong way and stuff--but circumstances has made him face some hard truths and then come out the other side. Stefan has been allowed the privilege of maintaining his illusions and still being the one everyone chooses. If this show doesn't fuck with that, I will be severely disappointed.
