YOU'RE NOT EVEN INTO THE BROWN EYED GIRLS THOUGH. POSER.

Also maybe because of the fact that the show time-and-again showcases that Ra Im is physically stronger than Joo Won? Which, I think, makes a significant difference at that 'subjective threat level', because it becomes one of those standpoints through which to judge their physical interactions.

Quite possibly. Ra Im really doesn't have any qualms beating the shit out of Joo Won for being a douchenozzle! The gender fuckery of the show is pretty refreshing, what with Joo Won being an alien to physical activity and insisting that Ra Im "use words rather than fists". ;D

to 'the Little Mermaid lives out all her dreams and does everything she wants to and makes lots of money while the prince just loves her' (how hilarious, ridic and heartbreaking was his alternate ending????)

RIGHT???? That's another point I forgot to mention, that Joo Won actually gets over his assholery (via the body-swapping-device-of-character-growth). Their relationship is super dysfunctional during build-up but surprisingly really not when they're actually together? I'd be more bothered by his pursuit of her if he also micromanaged when they were in a legit relationship, but their relationship post-buildup isn't abusive so I'm not tbh.

In which case, I also don't summarily dismiss this trope, even though it makes me feel like a Bad Feminist (TM) because sometimes my pathological fear of emotional commitment is so strong that I do say things that I don't mean.

BRO, YOU UNDERSTAND ME. tbh I hate that one even has to feel like a Bad Feminist (TM) for that? I mean, there's a difference in being able to relate with the female character/not being personally squicked and excusing the dude's shitty actions? Which I don't, btw. Joo Won is totally out of line wrt his treatment of Ra Im for half the show's run (even if I don't personally find him threatening), hence why I can understand other people hating the show.

That sometimes she too wanted to wear pretty dresses and be chased by guys and to not have to live up to the Strong Action Woman image all the time (I think that was so well done, that she coveted pretty dresses and bags etc., because with this sort-of character, it's so easy to slip into shaming of ~conventionally feminine stereotypes).

P R E A C H. HOW GOOD WERE THESE LEADS, DUDE. And since the show was so good about the above gender stuff I guess I'm more forgiving about its more dubious moments? On the same point, I actually appreciated that the show established early on that Ra Im returned Joo Won's interest, when she went to go meet him wearing the thing around her neck that guys supposedly find ~attractive (and then got chewed out by him because of her cheap bag). That scene actually established a legit emotional reason for Ra Im to push him away afterwards (i.e. to protect herself from having her heart broken by him), which I could totally sympathise with, and kind of foreshadowed why she would eventually come around (i.e. she recognises that he wants her unconditionally), which I could ALSO totally sympathise with.

IN OTHER NEWS I watched the first ep of MNIKSS. I enjoyed it a looooooot! Only, I'm super weirded out by HOW THIN Hyun Bin got between this show and Secret Garden. :| :| :| He looks so much healthier in MNIKSS (AND STILL HAS A FACE BTW). Though I don't really have feels about his character (yet?). I love Sam Soon, though, and also the fact that the show is about cake. :D :D :D WILL KEEP YOU POSTED (on 9E2O too when I eventually watch it).
