Elementary is returning in a matter of days (... in Australia) and I realize I never posted about my feels about the ending of S1. So.

• So... that twist. I am ambivalent. This post pretty much sums it up for me. Not that I don't think it's kind of ingenious, because it is, but I can't be unreservedly flaily about it either.


• Irene(/Moriarty)/Sherlock should totally be my thing (FOE!YAY!) but evidently I am doing it wrong because honestly I am not really shipping that. The flashback dump did not excite me and oddly I am not seeing the Jonny L.M./Natalie D. fire I want to be seeing. I WANT TO SHIP IT BUT I DOOOOOOON'T. #life problems


• I maintain that the Joan/Sherlock story is the single best, most consistent, and best-developed thing about the show and I am still way more invested in their relationship than anything else. He named a bee after her, ok, all other arguments are irrelevant.


• Alternatively, Joan/Moriarty should be a thing.


• Lookin' forward to s2 though, despite my grumbling!

And I was supposed to review White Christmas aaaaages ago but didn't b/c suck and now I've lost most of my immediate feels ;___________; Still,

• ZOMG best show ever.


• Obviously the "are monsters created or born?" theme appealed, although sometimes I felt like it was more like an anvil -- in contrast to how subtle and slow-paced the overall show was.


• But the way they wrapped up that theme was :D :D :D I endorsed that ending so violently.


• Dude, Bang Sung Joon is crazy attractive in this. The shorter hair suits him so much better than the SUFBB mop tbh. And, fine, sociopathy also looks crazy good on him, smh.


• My other "fave" dudes were Mi Reu and Yoon Su and Young Jae for reasons of psychotic jackassery and in Yoon Su's case unadulterated masochism. X(((((((


• Speaking of which, SO UPSET ABOUT YOON SU'S DEMISE WHY SHOW WHYYYYY /o\ /o\ /o\ /o\ /o\


• ofc Eun Sung was my girl. The m:f ratio didn't even bother me here because Eun Sung.


• lbr Eun Sung/Young Jae was the wrong ship of my dead heart, I NEVER CLAIMED NOT TO BE EMBARRASSINGLY PREDICTABLE. "become twisted enough for a twisted boy like me to like you"??? LIKE IT COULD BE ANY OTHER WAY.


• And then I read Ranya's fic and I cried and my tears were black mascara.


• This show deserves a much better review OTL but suffice it to say everyone should watch this and then come cry.

Aside from White Christmas I also recently finished My Girlfriend is a Gumiho and Coffee Prince! \o/ Oh, and Boys Over Flowers. Which I am not going to spare further thought to because lol no. Aaaaand I am now about halfway through Playful Kiss, which I am enjoying a lot more than I would... So if you have feelings about those things then heckle in comments.

(4) Can someone please explain to me why Infinite are playing at the likes of L.A. and Paris on their world tour but not doing A SINGLE DATE in Australia? Like, it's Australia. tbh I have no idea how popular they are in the U.S./Europe (supposedly the NY tickets sold out quickly, idk?) but come on. DOES FRANCE HAVE ITS OWN KPOP RADIO CHANNEL? I THINK NOT. (Not that I know what I'm talking about, mind.) Anyway, I hope everyone on my flist who have tickets have the time of their lives on my behalf. Please touch Woohyun for me. (No, don't really do that, leave him alone.) (But do send him this bleeding black heart from me to his fishnet shirts. ;______; I can say no more.)

I had that same reservation to Irene being M, too, but I think on balance I'm okay with it. I mean, it was what I wanted to see since ages, so that's probably the controlling factor. But I also feel like his whole thing about The Woman wouldn't make sense in the modern context any other way? I can buy that the original Holmes didn't have contact with a lot of women, but for Elementary!Sherlock to have her set apart to that level needs an explanation such as "being completely in her thrall." But it's something I (clearly) had some reservations about too.

Item of the third... Joan/Sherlock 5ever okay. Also Joan/Moriarty because obviously the mascot beat her so Joan should top. I liked the twist but I didn't really see the supposed chemistry either. I love Johnny Lee Miller's everything and Irene's actress is lovely but I just don't see it. And Joan's face is the best face that ever faced ever.

Item of the fourth... I have not seen White Christmas but let me just say Bang Sung Joon is absolutely mesmerising all the time ever. Him and Kim Woobin. Those two I would pay to see watch paint dry, NOT KIDDING.

Item of the fifth ... I think it's a crime that INFINITE is not going anywhere in the entire continent of Australia. Because hello that's dumb. Also anywhere Dongwoo wants to go he should get to go. This should be a law.

(3.5) I wish I knew the source material so that I could make more of an argument on Moriarty. Mostly I didn't ship it, but I assumed that Joan/Moriarty was more important (lulz 4eva at my femslahs bias) and also presumed that Sherlock's ~detachment issues with everyone but Joan would translate even to his relationship with M. Their scenes together mostly make me want to scream because she's so delightfully awful. (and I knew the twist before I was able to watch)
(4) Infinite was in Bangkok on Sat, but the date wasn't announced/tickets available until the 10th of this month. Which gave me less than two weeks to scramble for money and a partner in crime... and then didn't get a ticket. Pain thy name is fangirl.

I am not going to lie; I was over the moon about the reveal. I am unsure how much of this is related to me calling it from Dormer's casting and how much is related to Moriarty being a woman qua woman. I skimmed the post about A Scandal in Bohemia a bit and I've seen a few arguments in this vein; mostly that by merging Moriarty and Irene, Irene no longer gets to be the one who actually "beats" Sherlock (from what I gather, the original Irene wouldn't have cared about beating Sherlock). I get that perspective but I also just am in love with Moriarty being this person who - being someone who is curious about people and is unused to them actually warranting it - decides to toy with Sherlock. I don't ship it qua ship it, especially given the severe abuse/gaslighting issues that go along with it, but I do love the art of the story behind it. I also love that Elementary took this One Woman idea and smashed it to pieces, i.e.



I do like the idea of Joan/Moriarty and/or Joan + Moriarty. I like that Sherlock didn't get to beat Moriarty in the end; it was Joan who "solved" Moriarty and yet I am also interested in Joan learning from Moriarty the way she learned from Sherlock. Those two opposing views of the world - people are puzzles vs. people are games - could make Joan fucking unstoppable. It's something that Elementary is probably going to do with 0.00000001% chance, just because it's the Joan + Sherlock show, not the Joan Becomes The Best Detective Ever Show, and that's fine. Fanfiction!

I don't think people's issue is about Irene not being able to "beat" Sherlock so much as that the initial appeal of Irene was that her character never revolved around Sherlock, whereas her being Sherlock's main antagonist inevitably means her character revolves around Sherlock? Anyway, I take the point about the One Woman subversion and I can see why it works for you. Hopefully whatever they do with the storyline this season will win me over.
